Ticks are always a concern when being outdoors. Ticks are very rare on
the groomed trails since we mo
w
them in summer and they have no small bushes on the trail. The Harold
Libbey and Outback trail have more wild conditions and do have a higher chance
of ticks. Trail users report occasional ticks on the trails but they
relatively low compared to other areas in southern Maine. One area of
significant tick population, is the area off trail by the pond at the Middle
School. Use care when in that section. You can also protect yourself
by wearing long pants and/or spraying your legs with a potent insect repellent.

Black flies and mosquitoes
Black flies are not very prominent at Libby Hill with only a few flies in late May. Mosquitoes are present starting in June and are most heavy near the pond by the Middle School and on the beaver marsh area off the Outback trails. The majority of the groomed trails are in high dry areas and have relatively few biting insects. So don't the bugs get you down... come out and explore.
