Libby Hill Trails Pet and Horse Policies
In May 2009, the Friends of Libby Hill reviewed and updated the Horse and Pet policy for Libby Hill. No changes were made to the existing pet policy which has required leashing and waste removal. Additional signage will be posted on trails to remind users about the pet policy. There have been several incidents where dogs have been loose and chased runners and skiiers on the trails. It is critical the pet owners abide by the policy and educate those who may be unaware of the policy.
Horses caused significant trail damage in 2008/2009 and were banned from the trails over the winter. The Friends have decided to try a new policy opening up 2 additional trails to horses and see if damage can be minimized in 2009. Dani Kelly has volunteered to be a liaison for horse owners and work on making the trail system compatible with horses. The Friends will review the usage by horses at the end of the season to determine future access.
Pet Policy
Pets must be leashed and under complete control of owners at all times. Pet waste needs to removed from the trails immediately and ideally removed from the property. Pets are not allowed to chase trail users, wildlife, or damage plants. Owners who fail to comply will be asked to remove their pet from Libby Hill. Pets are not allowed on any school ball fields.
Horse Policy
Horses are
restricted to ATV/Snowmobile Trails, Moose Odyssey, and Deer Run. Horses
may only go on these trails between June 1st and November 1st. 2009. Horses may
not go on trails if conditions are wet or if there is a risk of rutting or
eroding of trails. Horse owners should make efforts to remove horse manure from
trails in a reasonable period of time to prevent excess accumulation of horse
waste. This policy will be reviewed in November of 2009 to assess trail usage
by horses to determine if horses will continue to have access to these trails at
Libby Hill after 2009.
Horse Riders, Help us in 2010!
