Freeport Wild Bird Supply to Highlight Libby Hill Trails
March
13 and 14
The weekend of March 13 and 14,
Freeport Wild Bird Supply
will help Libby Hill Trails by providing a booth for promoting Libby Hill and
donating 4.5% of sales* to the Save Libby Hill Campaign . Owners
Derek and Jeannette Lovitch are dedicated to supporting local organizations that
preserve habitat and have chosen 12 local organizations to feature each month in
their store. We were very excited to learn that the Gray Community
Endowment was chosen as their first organization because of its work on saving
land from development at Libby Hill!
Derek has already provided support of Libby Hill by leading a Birding at Libby Hill event in the spring of 2008. During that bird walk, Derek found over 40 species of birds on Libby Hill in less than 2 hours! His background as a biologist and world wide nature experiences provided an exceptional educational opportunity for all who attended. Plans are under way for a repeat of this event in 2010 so be sure to drop by the store during the event and ask about good places to observe birds at Libby Hill.
If you like birds at your home, Derek and Jeannette will consult with you on how to improve your bird habitat. Four years ago, I first walked into their store and they helped me increase my bird population from a few chickadees to over 30 species visiting my yard during the year. So, if you want to bring the birds to your backyard in 2010, be sure come the weekend of March 13 and 14 and help Libby Hill at the same time! We'll have volunteers at the store who have birding experience on Libby Hill who can also give you good tips on where to find birds. Come on down and see us!
Derek also provides up to date birding news a few times a week on his blog at the Maine Today, be sure to check it out here!
